Hackathon Rules & Guidelines

Event: Inter-College Hackathon @ VIT Vellore — Innovation Week 2026

Duration: 2 Days (48 Hours)

Mode: Offline Hackathon (Hardware & Software Tracks)

Domains / Tracks

Participants can innovate in any of the following areas:

  1. Artificial Intelligence (AI) / Machine Learning (ML)
  2. Drones & Robotics
  3. Healthtech & Medtech
  4. Augmented Reality (AR) / Virtual Reality (VR) & Internet of Things (IoT)
  5. Cybersecurity

Team Formation Rules

  • Each team must consist of at least two members and utmost four members.
  • All team members must belong to the same college (no inter-college teams allowed).
  • Each participant can join only one team.
  • Participants must be currently enrolled students of a recognized college or university.

Event Format

Day 1

  • Registration and introductory ceremony.
  • Idea pitching and initial screening sessions.
  • First Round Elimination & Selection of Teams For Final Presentation

Day 2

  • Continuation of development and reviews.
  • Final submission, demo, and judging.
  • Valedictory and prize distribution ceremony.

Prototypes Guidelines

  • Prototypes can be hardware-based, software-based, or hybrid.
  • Use of open-source tools, frameworks, and models is allowed (with proper credits).
  • Each team should maintain a GitHub (or similar) repository for submissions.
  • A demo and short presentation are mandatory during the final judging round.

Judging Criteria

Prototypes will be evaluated based on:

  1. Innovation & Originality – Novelty of the idea and creative thinking.
  2. Technical Implementation – Quality, functionality, and complexity of the solution.
  3. Impact & Practicality – Usefulness, scalability, and real-world relevance.
  4. Design & User Experience – Clarity, accessibility, and polish of the prototype.
  5. Presentation & Teamwork – Delivery, communication, and coordination during demo.

General Rules

  • Participants must carry their valid college ID cards.
  • Inter-college teams[Two Different Colleges in the Same Team] are not permitted.
  • Plagiarized or pre-built(bought) projects will result in immediate disqualification.
  • Teams must adhere to the submission deadlines strictly.
  • The decision of the judging panel will be final and binding.
  • Participants must uphold professional and respectful conduct at all times.
  • Accommodation and meals may be provided for outstation participants, on request (details will follow, post registration).

Awards & Recognition

  • First Prize is Rs 50,000, Second Prize is Rs 30,000 and Third prize is Rs 20,000, for each track.
  • Attractive prizes, goodies, and internship opportunities for top teams may be provided
  • Certificates of Participation for all eligible teams.

Registration & Problem Statement

  • Registration closes on 03th January 2026.
  • Registration Fee: Rs 500(excluding GST) per team
  • Teams must register at events.vit.ac.in/events/INOHAC
  • Visit events.vit.ac.in/events/INOHAC -> Register. Payment as well as Registration will be done here.
  • Maximum of 45 Teams per track So secure your spot now!
  • Problem statements and rulebook will be released on 05th January 2026.
  • Teams are allowed to choose problem statements until 10th January 2026 after which they have to finalize and submit the chosen Problem Statement.

Hackathon Dates

  • The hackathon will be conducted on 20th and 21st of January 2026 at VIT Vellore

  1. Should the participating teams get their own hardware components or it will be provided?
    • Hardware components will NOT be provided.
    • Teams should bring any hardware components they will require.
  2. When will the accommodation details be released and should I pay for it?
    • Accommodation is only applicable for external participants
    • The accommodation details will be released shortly after the registration ends (i.e. after 3rd Jan 2026)
    • Yes, teams must pay to avail this facility, based on availability
  3. Are there any travel claims applicable?
    • No, there won't be travel claims for the participants.
  4. Should all members from the team fill the form?
    • No, only the team lead member should fill the form and pay the fee.
  5. Can I change the details of my team after registering?
    • You cannot change the details of your team after registration
  6. Can I change the track after registering?
    • You cannot change the track after registration
